Sakinah app for LG TVs and Sakinah extension for Chrome · Last updated: 18 October 2026

Sakinah is an independent app that plays recitations published on TvQuran.com. It is not affiliated with that site.

In short

The app collects no personal data, needs no account, and contains no ads. It sends anonymous usage data that helps us improve it, which you can turn off in Settings.

Anonymous usage data

The app sends anonymous usage data by default; you can turn it off any time in Settings → "Share anonymous usage data", after which nothing more is sent. It sends to PostHog (EU servers): the sections you open, what kind of thing plays (section, reciter or surah) and for how long, use of the adhan, adhkar, live broadcast and downloads, setting changes, search terms, errors, time spent in the app, the country code used for prayer times, and the app's language and version. Your device is identified only by a random number — no name, account or precise location, no person profiles, and no location lookup from your IP address. This data is never sold, shared or used for advertising.

Feedback messages

If you send an idea, request or problem from "Send feedback", your message and its type, your email if you typed it, and the app's language and version are sent to PostHog so we can read it and reply. This happens only when you press Send.

What is stored on your TV only

The app keeps, on your TV alone: the recitations you choose to download, what you were last listening to and where you stopped, your settings (city, prayer-time method and so on), and a copy of the recitation lists so the app works offline. None of this is sent anywhere.

Location for prayer times

To calculate prayer times, the app finds your approximate city from your internet connection by asking GeoJS (get.geojs.io), or ipwho.is if that fails, once on first launch and then about every 30 days. Like any internet request, the service sees your IP address; the app sends it nothing else. Prayer times are calculated on the TV itself. Choosing your city by hand in Settings turns automatic detection off.

Internet connections

Besides the location service, the app connects only to TvQuran.com (to fetch recitation lists), download.tvquran.com (to play and download the audio), hisnmuslim.com (to play the adhkar with their text), and — only when you open the live stream from the Two Holy Mosques — YouTube's official player through a relay page on ahmedkamal.me, which is covered by YouTube's privacy policy. As with any internet request, these servers can see your device's IP address; this is covered by the TvQuran.com privacy policy.

Chrome extension

The Sakinah extension for Chrome works the same way and keeps its data in your browser only. It uses alarms and notifications to play and announce the adhan on time, even when the Sakinah tab is closed. It does not read the web pages you visit or your browsing history; its site permissions are limited to the services listed above, plus youtube.com to find the current live-stream link when you open it. Removing the extension from Chrome deletes all of its data.

Deleting your data

Delete downloaded recitations from the app's Downloads section. Uninstalling the app removes all of its data from the TV.
